Working Philosophy

A project is proposed, from an outside source, or generated internally.

Each main aspect of the proposed project is defined.
A "plus" and a "minus" characteristick is placed on each point, from a short and from a long term perspective. Each aspect is discussed/evaluated, eg:Girls go to school?
Yes (+): supportive, educational, equality.
No (-): who is to fetch the water, look after the animals, look after home etc.
Solution: Bring water to the houses, share tasks more evenly, provide two start/finish times at school so work in the village can be done.

The project must meet 'real' needs, and not 'western' perceived ideas/ambitions.

Finance
i) Joint Project – 50-50
Shrinking Horizons contributes 30 to 50% of the costs (cash/materials).The village/organization/person-partner meet the other 50-70 %. This may be in the form of land, work, materials, accommodation/food, supplies and/or cash.

ii) Support Project.
Shrinking Horizons contributes a sum/materials/expertise to a planned or to an established project, run/owned by another organization, to enable that
project to be improved, enlarged or completed.

Inverted Pyramid
Funds contributed by Shrinking Horizons are introduced into the lower end of the Economy Pyramid, not at a higher level (i.e. local, and not governmental).

Spiral Help
Shrinking Horizons' projects have an integrated "growth" system, where the basic project can develop to include a wider function/field of interest. Spiral Help is where the person/project commits to helping develop the project further, or to helping another project in the future.

Immediate Aid
In case of emergency, where we have resources, S.H. can assist with no pre-agreed conditions. In the form of medical assistance to workers, their families, or a village/area in crisis situation.
